Determination of pre-service teachers' ICT skills and tendencies towards use of technology in their classes

Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), which is involved in all spheres of daily life, is an area that educational institutions pay particular attention in today's world. A brief literature review reveals that the training and experiences they receive during their education in the college affect their professional skills. In order to prevent potential problems regarding integrating technology in teachers' lessons. This study was carried out to determine ICT skills and tendencies of pre-service teachers towards technology use in the class (TTTUC). For this purpose, general screening model, one of the quantitative research methods, was adopted. "Teachers' ICT Skills Scale", developed by Turel, Ozdemir & Varol (2017), was used in this study in order to measure teachers' ICT skills. In addition, Tendency Scale for Towards Technology Use in Class developed by Gunuc (2013) was used in this study to examine pre-service teachers' tendencies towards technology use in lessons. This study was conducted with 617 pre-service teachers, 467 female (75.69%), 150 male (24.31%), studying at Firat University Faculty of Education during the 2019-2020 academic year. The results of the present study show that pre-service teachers gave answers corresponding to the "partially agree" in ICT skills scale. It was also found that there was a significant difference in the department, computer ownership, mobile learning experience, terms of knowledge of FATIH Project according to ICT skill. However, it was found that there was no significant difference in gender, class, daily internet and social media usage times. Pre-service teachers gave answers corresponding to the "partially agree" in the tendency scale for towards technology use in class. It was found that pre-service teachers differed significantly according to the department, class, computer ownership, mobile learning experience, terms of knowledge of FATIH Project, social media usage times. However, it was found that there was no significant difference regarding gender, daily internet usage times. In addition, it was determined that there is a positive and low relationship between pre-service teachers' ICT skill and their TTTUC.
