Determination of pre-service teachers' awareness of environmental ethics

The purpose of this study is to determine the environmental ethics awareness levels of pre-service teachers. In addition, environmental ethics awareness levels of pre-service teachers evaluated by in gender, class, department, environmental education, taking lessons for the environment education, family income status, mother education level, father education level, settlement before university and graduated high school type variables. The sample of the study consists of 871 pre-service teachers studying in six departments under Faculty of Education in Duzce University in the spring semester of the 2017-2018 academic year. In addition, interviews were conducted with semi-structured questions with 28 pre-service selected from each class of these departments. In order to determine the level of awareness of environmental ethics among pre-service teachers, a relational survey model of qualitative research methods, to examine the opinions on environmental ethics, case study method was used. In the research Environmental Ethics Awareness Scale, developed by Özer (2015), and semi-structured questions, which are thought to be more questioning of environmental ethics awareness based on the items of this scale, were interviewed with pre-service teachers. The collected data were analyzed by appropriate statistical methods (f, %, t-test, one-way variance analysis (ANOVA), Kruskall Wallis test) which are suitable for computer problems. According to the findings, it was found out that the pre service teacher's level of environmental ethics differed according to gender, department, taking lessons for environmental education, mother education level, location of settlement before university, while there was no difference according to the class level, taking seminar for environmental education, family income level, father education level and graduated high school type variables. As a result of interviews with pre service teachers, six themes and sub-themes of these themes were determined.
