Realationship between teachers and school administrators' type a personality characteristics and burnout, a survey on primary education schools in Bayrampaşa region

In this study the relationship between Type A personality characteristics of teachers and school administrators and exhaustions syndrome is being examined. The employers? types of attitudes reflexting their personal qualities can be considered an important factor in business life. An individual perceptions and evaluation can be thought as the most important stress causing factor. In this context, in order to examine the relation between personal qualities and exhaution; Maslach Exhaution Inventory, Behaviours Scale and Personal Information Form have been used. At the schools where this research was applied this questionnaire was handed out to 329 teachers and administrators. 311 of them were returned and 303 of them were taken into considerations.In the research, to determine the teachers and administrators? burnout sydrome and Type A personality and professional characteristics, the gained frequencies percentages and arithmetical averages have been shown and explained on grafic charts. Parametric and non- parametric variant analyses have been calculated. To determine the difference among the groups, independent t-test, Anova and Kruskal Wallis have been estimated. In order to find out the differentations in the parametric tests LSD, Tukey and Scheffé test and in the non-parametric tests Mann Whitney-U test have been applied.In the Behaviour Scale alpha reliability; for the importance factor given to the work ?=.76, for the importance factor given to speed ?=.66, for the alienation to social effects factor ?=.49, for the importance factor given to timing ?=.45 and for the behaviours inventory ?= .81 have been found.The validity and reliability study of Maslach Burnout Inventory, the reliability parameter of the scale: for the emotional exhaustion dimention ?=.77, for the depersonalization dimention ?=.68, for the personal accomplishment dimentions ?=.77, and for the total burnout syndrome ?=.87 have been found.In the study the following results have been achieved. It has been observed that the teachers and administrators are as follows. For the importance factor given to work; they are Type A for the alinetion factor to social effects they are Type B for the importance factor given to speed, they are Type A. Schools administrators and teachers mostly live emotional exhaustion, depersonalization personal accomplishment and low level burned syndrome.The burnout syndrome level of teachers and administrators shows meaningful differentiation according to number of children they have, their age, education, qualifications and, seniority changes but they it does not show meaningful differenciations according to so marital status, not having children branch of study administratory seniority and the lenght of service.Key words: Burnout Syndrome, Type A Personality, Personality, Administrator, Stress
