The Effectiveness of micro teaching in teacher training

This study investigated the effectiveness of micro teaching in teacher* training at Fırat University, Faculty of Technical Education, where Micro Teaching course has been a part of the program since 1992-1993 Spring term. The effect of micro teaching has been studied comparing the two groups of college students' attitudes toward teaching profession as well as their perceptions about success on student teaching. Also, the opinions and reactions of experimental group student teachers toward micro teaching has been determined. The experi mental group has consisted of student-teachers who took Micro Teaching course, and the control group who did not take it. Two scales -five 1 i kert type scale and one questionnaire- have been administered to collect data. Frequencies and percentages are used in analysis of the results which are obtained from 167 experimental group and 107 control group student teachers, and t-tests of dependent and independent groups are utilized for testing of significance. The major findings of this study are as follows: Î. It is found that the mean attitude score of the experimental group toward the teaching profession is higher than the control group. 2. During the practice teaching, the experimental group has less difficulty than the control group. 3. The opinions and the reactions of the experimental group student teachers to micro teaching has been found very positive. As a result, it is determined that the micro teaching model, that is used at Fırat University, Faculty of Technical Education is effective, it can be tried out at the other institutions.
