A study of teachers and administrators? perception of `existentialist school management? (an example of Istanbul)

A study of teachers and administrators? perception of `Existentialist School Management? (An example of Istanbul)It is well understood that providing some academic and technological skills for the adult life is not enough for the students in today?s very complex world. Besides some practical skills for real life, if we want the students to take their own responsibilities of their decisions and to be a free individual, it is necessary to provide situations for them to realize themselves as emotional human beings too. Since a really important part of the students? time is spent in schools, administrators and teachers have a great responsibility to provide their self realization.By this research it is aimed to find out administrators and teachers? perception of `Existentialist School Management? in state high schools. The three dimension of `Existentialist School Management?, `Individual Existentialism?, `Organizational Existentialism? and `Negative World? then administrators and teachers? perception is compared according to their demographics.The research data obtained from 44 administrators and 120 teachers who work in state high schools in four districts of Istanbul. After examining the collected data, statistics have been applied according to their variation. Independent groups t-test, non-parametric Mann-Whitney U test, one-ways analysis of variance (ANOVA) used to find out if there were significant differences between or among groups.As a result of our study, it is found out administrators have more positive perception and older administrators/teachers again have more positive perception than the young ones for `Existentialist School Management?.
