Abstract (EN)
This study aims to examine teachers' anxiety levels about physical violence according to numerous variables and to reveal how teachers who have been subjected to physical violence in their professional lives are affected by violence. In the research, a sequential explanatory design, one of the mixed method designs, was used. The quantitative phase of the study, in which the descriptive survey model was used, was carried out with the participation of 657 teachers and administrators working in high schools in the province of Siirt and its districts in the 2019-2020 academic year. In the qualitative phase of the study, interviews were made with 10 teachers and administrators who experienced physical violence in their professional life. The quantitative data of the study were obtained using the developed Physical Violence Anxiety Scale (FVAS), and the qualitative data were obtained using the developed semi-structured interview form. For the analysis of quantitative data, descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way analysis of variance, Kruskall Wallis test and Mann Whitney U Test were used. In addition, Tukey HSD test, which is one of the multiple comparison tests, was also used. Qualitative data, on the other hand, were described by using the descriptive and content analysis. According to the results of the quantitative data of the study, it was determined that the anxieties, exposure anxiety and support perceptions of the teachers and administrators working in high schools were at a high level, and their negative outcome anxieties were at a very high level. The negative outcome anxiety and support perceptions of the teachers and administrators differ according to the variables of gender, workplace and school type. The negative outcome concerns of the teachers and administrators differ according to the seniority variable. The concerns of the participants in the totality of the scale are different according to the hometown variable. It was determined that students and parents were the people with whom the participants mostly experienced physical violence anxiety. In the qualitative phase of the study, it was determined that teachers were mostly exposed to physical violence by students. Besides, there are also teachers who are subjected to physical violence by parents, administrators and other employees. Teachers who have experienced physical violence have experienced various personal, emotional, family, professional and social problems. While none of the participants who experienced physical violence received professional support, some of them received environmental support.
