Investigation of the problems faced by syrian students in the first grade of primary school from the eyes of teachers while learning their literature skills (Şanlıurfa province)

The arrival of the majority of Syrian refugees to our country, who left their country due to the civil war in Syria in March 2011, was considered as a temporary process and an open door policy was implemented. But as time passed, the civil war was not over. "Temporary Protection" status has been given to Syrian refugees, whose number is approaching 4 million in Turkey. The number of Syrian children in our schools has increased to this extent. Our state has made various initiatives regarding the education rights of Syrian students for Syrian refugees who cannot make return plans because peace has not yet been established in their countries. Academic studies have been carried out to produce the program that Syrian students have to implement in order to be included in our education system. As the number of Syrian students who are in school age in our country increases, literacy teaching to foreign students has become widespread and has led to an increase in research on the subject. The main purpose of this study is to examine the problems faced by Syrian students studying in the first grade of primary school, while learning literacy skills, through the eyes of teachers. The universe of the research consists of teachers who work in Şanlıurfa province and its districts and have at least one illiterate student from Syria in their class. The sample of the study consists of 135 classroom teachers who have at least one Syrian student in their class in the 2021-2022 academic year. The general survey model, one of the quantitative research models, was used. In the study, the data transferred to the digital environment ' Syria nationality Primary school First Class Reading and Writing to Students while teaching encountered Problems Scale ( SÖOYÖSÖ ). In the analysis of quantitative data, descriptive statistical techniques (frequency, percentage, ss, mean) and Kruskal Wallis H Test and Mann Whitney U Test, which are nonparametric statistical techniques, were applied and the significance value was considered as 0.05. As a result of the research, it was determined that classroom teachers had problems in some cases while teaching reading and writing. These problems were identified as language-related problems and problems encountered during adaptation to school and education process. Looking at the data results, it is seen that the education of Syrian students should be more planned and Syrian students need more support. As a result of this, studies are carried out on what kind of steps will be taken to solve these problems experienced by Syrian students.
