Examination of teachers' professional anxiety levels by gender

This study, which aims to examine teachers' professional anxiety levels by gender, was carried out with a general screening model based on quantitative data. The population of the research consisted of a total of 412 teachers working in schools affiliated with the Ministry of Education in the Haliliye district of Şanlıurfa province. The research sample was determined by simple random sampling method on a voluntary basis. Teaching Profession Anxiety Scale was used to collect research data. The scale was developed by Borich (1996) and adapted into Turkish by Saban, Korkmaz and Akbaşlı (2004). Teaching Profession Anxiety Scale is a 45-item scale. The scale has 3 dimensions and each dimension is measured with 15 items. These dimensions are Self-centered concerns; Task-centered concerns; and student-centered concerns. Data was collected via online survey. The data were analyzed via SPSS 29 program. Kolmogorov Smirnov, Mann Whitney U, Kruskall Wallis H and Beferroni Corrected Dunn Multiple comparisons tests were used to analyze the data. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that female teachers had higher levels than male teachers in the sub-dimensions of Self-Centered Concerns, Task-Centered Concerns, Student-Centered Concerns and Teaching Profession Anxiety Scale Total Score levels. It should be focused on the sources of anxiety of female teachers and measures should be developed to reduce these concerns.
