The views of special education teachers about the use of assistive technology in lessons

Özet (EN)

The aim of this study is determining the views of teachers, working in special education classes of primary and secondary schools and special education vocational training centers in Eskişehir and Ankara, about the use of assistive technology in their classes. The study was carried out with 414 special education teachers. Descriptive survey model was used in line with the purpose of the study. Assistive Technology Usage Survey developed by the researcher was used as data collection tool. The results were analysed statistically; frequency and percentage distribution were calculated. In the analyses of data, chi-square test was used which is one of the non-parametric tests in line with the purposes. According to first sub aim's results, the teachers' views about the use of assistive technology were handled by several variables and any significant differences between them were put forward. According to second sub aim's results, it was determined that in which areas were the teachers self sufficient. According to third sub aim's results, the devices, which the teachers use most and find usefull, their aim for use of assistive technology, the resources, which the teachers use to get information about assistive technology, the situations effect the teachers' decision making process while using assistive technology and the problems while using assistive technology were determined.
