The effect of reading comprehension belief self efficiency reading comprehension and metacognitive reading comprehension awareness

The main purpose of this study is to examine the effect of self-efficiency perception and meta-cognitive reading comprehension awareness in reading comprehension, reading comprehension skill which is an essential component that directly affecting success in other courses, especially in Turkish lessons. In this research, the dependent variable is taken into consideration as reading comprehension; on the other hand, independent variables are acknowledged as self- efficiency perception, meta-cognitive comprehension awareness, gender, mother and father education status, the average family income. In this respect, reading comprehension achievement test, scale of belief self efficiency reading comprehension, meta-cognitive reading comprehension awareness instrument and personal information forms are used a data collecting means and the association between the students' reading comprehension skills and different variables have been tried to be determined. Having multiple variable within the scope of the research and examining the correspondence between these variables required the research association screening model in this research. "It is a research model which aims to determine the existence or degree of cooperative change between association screening model and more variables." (Karasar, 2013, s. 81). The research was carried out with a total of 277 grade students, 137 female and 140 male students studying in 3 different independent secondary schools (Hüseyin Avni Çöllü Secondary School, Ayten Çağıran Secondary School, Namık Kemal Secondary School ) in the central district of Antalya (Kepez, Konyaaltı, Muratpaşa) in the spring term of 2018-2019 academic year and the data were collected by the Turkish teachers themselves in the classes during the course hours. The data obtained during the research were analyzed by SPSS 22.0 package program. In the analyzes performed in statistical program to determine the connection of variables Pearson Multiplication Of Moments Correlation Analysis was made, Mann Whitney U test and Kruskal Wallis Test were used among the nonparametric tests. According to the results of the study, it was concluded that reading comprehension has a significant effect on self-efficiency perception meta-cognitive reading comprehension in students' reading comprehension success.
