The relationship between effective communication skills of school managers and teachers 'professional motivations

The aim of this study is to determine the level of perception of primary school teachers' communication skills and their professional motivation and to reveal the relationship between these variables. For this purpose, the study consists of four parts. In the first section communication, in the second part motivation, in the third part the relationship between communication and motivation are discussed. In the last section, findings and comments are given. This study, which was conducted by using a correlational survey model, was applied on 316 teachers selected through easily availability sampling in 33 public schools of Düzce Provincial Directorate of National Education in 2018- 2019 academic year. The Executive Scale developed by Torun (2015) and the "Occupational Motivation Scale developed by Ural (1996) were used to collect the scale data. According to the results, teachers 'perceptions about school principals' communication skills are high. Especially male teachers have higher perceptions than female teachers. The communication skills of school principals did not change according to the branches of teachers. It is concluded that there is a moderate positive relationship between the communication skills of the principals and the seniority of teachers. Teachers' professional motivation is good. It was found that teachers generally liked their jobs and did it with pleasure. It was observed that the professional motivation of female teachers slightly higher than the male teachers in the professional motivation of the teachers. It was concluded that the level of vocational motivation of teachers of religious culture was higher than other branch teachers. In the analyzes made considering the seniority of teachers, It is seen that the motivation of the teachers who are new to their profession and in their last years of career is higher. Another important result of the study is that there is a positive relationship between the communication skills of the principals and the professional motivation of the teachers. In the light of the data obtained, recommendations were made to educational management researchers, school administrators and related institutions and organizations on the subject.
