Examining the social skills of secondary school students participating and not participating in school sports (example of Isparta province)

The main goal of this study is to compare the results of participation in school sports activities considering the effects of it on the social skills levels of secondary education students in terms of different variables (regular sports, participating in sports competitions, proficiency for the course, sports in cold weather, use of sports equipment). This research is a descriptive study with scanning model. The target population of the study is secondary school students studying in Şarkikaraağaç district of Isparta province, while the sample group consists of 300 students (137 males and 163 females) who attend five different secondary education institutions and participate in school sports activities. The social skill inventory, developed by Riggio (1989) and adapted to Turkish by Yüksel (1997), was applied to the student group. In addition, the Personal Information Form developed by the researcher was used to reach the demographic information of the students participating in the study. The suitability of the data for normal distribution was examined by using the Shapiro-Wilks test and as a result of the analysis, it was determined that the data regarding the sub-dimension and the total scale score did not show a normal distribution (p <0.05). Therefore, non-parametric analysis methods were preferred. In the analysis, the level of significance was determined as p <0.05. In conclusion, both literature review and statistical analysis have been determined that school sports are an important factor in secondary education students in accordance with the studies and researches on school sports and socialization.
