Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted in a randomized controlled experimental type to determine the effect of nursing care and coping with difficulty training given to nurses caring for dying cancer patients and their families on nursing care and difficulties experienced. The research was conducted with nurses working in hospitals with oncology and palliative care clinics in Adana between October 1 and December 31, 2022. The sample consisted of 52 nurses. Ethics committee approval, permission from the hospitals, and informed consent were obtained from the participants. Data were collected using the Nurse Identification Form, the Nursing Care Scale for Dying Patients and Their Families (NCD), and the Nurse Difficulty Scale for Dying Patients and Their Families (NDD). Analyzes were performed with IBM SPSS V25 Software and R Studio. The critical significance value was taken as p<0.05. In the study, nurses' pre-test mean score of NCD was 42.38±4.78 and post-test mean score was 52±3.7, mean pre-test total score of nurses was 31.63±6.1, post-test mean score was 21.2±62. There is a statistically significant difference between the pre-test and post-test mean scores of the total NCD and NDD scores (p<0.05). It was determined that the "Nursing Care and Coping Training for Nurses Caring for Dying Cancer Patients and Their Families" given to nurses increased the quality of nursing care given by nurses to patients with dying cancer and reduced the difficulties experienced by nurses while caring for these patients.
