Abstract (EN)

Throughout history, humanity has developed different ways of living and each society has built unique cultural structures. Individuals and communities have tried to understand their existence, environment and the world, in the light of these cultural trends. Experiences, teachings, ideas of thinkers, artists' productions and legends, along with many elements, have been processed in the memory of the society and have become cultural codes that affect the lives of the individuals. Today, societies are transforming rapidly with faster and more active interaction. In the midst of all this transformation, communication need still remains. In today's societies, visual is in the center and visual communication methods are more preferred. Individuals, brands or communities willing to express themselves properly; are trying to communicate through common cultural codes. It is getting easier and more effective for those who translate what they want to express into visual communication language by touching these codes. Modern communication studies turn into complex structures that contain many emotions. The narrative tendency in visual communication studies draws attention, and the visual communication designers are positioning as modern storytellers. In this thesis study, the significance of storytelling in communication has been questioned by storytelling practice of rubaies written by Ömer Hayyam, who is an important figure in the memory of the communities in Turkish and Persian regions.
