Org. İzzeddin Çalışlar's activities in the National Struggle

Abstract (EN)

Izzeddin Calislar, one of the most important figures of the Turkish War of Independence, was born in Yanya in 1882. After graduating from the War Academy, Izzeddin Calislar, who participated in the Balkan War in 1912 and served actively on the front line, came to the Canakkale Front at the urging of Mustafa Kemal Pasha with the start of the First World War and showed great usefulity as the chief of staff of Mustafa Kemal Pasha during the First World War. Izzeddin Calislar, who was appointed as the General Headquarters Staff in Istanbul following the Armisticle of Mondros, joined the National Army on July 1, 1920 to join the National Struggle even though he was placed under the command of the Chief of Staff in 1920 upon the invasion of Istanbul. Since joining the National Struggle, he first become a Acting Commander of the 20th Corps. Izzeddin Calislar, who served as the 23rd and 6st Division Commander after serving as The Corps Commander, succesfully fought in the Inonu Battles in this process and played a primary role in the suppression of the Çerkez Ehem uprising. In 1921, with the rank of Colonel as the 1st Group Commander, he undertook critical duties in the Kütahya- Eskişehir and Pinched Battle of Sakarya. He was given the surname Calislar by Mustafa Kemal Pasha because of the successful battles that Afyonkarahisar fought from the village of Calıslar to Izmir during the great Offensive, which he participated in as commander of the 1st Corps. With the entry of the Turkish army into Izmir, he served as the military governor of Izmir in addition to his Corps command. Izzeddin Calislar, who was appointed to the 3rd Army Command in 1925 and the 2nd Army Command in 1933, after the victory of the National Struggle, retired on 20 December 1939 at his own request. In his civilian life, in 1939 the fifth Period Aydın, in 1940 sixth and seventh Period Muğla, and then for Balıkesir in 1947 during the eight period elected as a member of parliament and replaced in Turkish Grand National Assembly, National Struggle hero Org. Izzeddin Calislar, passed away on August 20, 1951 in Istanbul. In this study, the duties and activities undertaken by Org. Izzeddin Calislar, who had great services in the successful conclusion of the National Struggle and the establishment of the new Republic of Turkey, were tried to be revealed.
