Organizational values adopted by secondary schools and teachers' perceptions on school image

As educational institutions, one of the most important functions of schools is to transfer the values of society to future generations. In this context, it is important that these values are adopted and practiced by school personnel in order to generate positive images about the school, transfer values to future generations and educational institutions have a favorable image in the public. The concept of image is highly important for the national education system in general and school administration in particular. The issues of values and image, which are also the elements of administrative responsibility are factors that can determine the quality of the school. Based on this view, the general purpose of this study was to reveal the relationship between the organizational values adopted by public and private secondary schools in the Province of Bolu and teachers' perceptions on school image. The results of this study will shed light on the desired values necessary to develop the intended image at the schools and may be used to realize organizational aims and achieve the desired image. This study utilized the relational screening model defined as a research model that aims to determine the presence and / or degree of covariance between two or more variables. Universe of the study consisted of 420 teachers employed in public and private secondary schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education in central Bolu province in the second semester of 2017-2018 academic year. The research data were collected with the help of "Organizational Values Scale" developed by Yılmaz (2007) and reconstructed by Demirtaş (2012) to identify the degree of organizational values and "Organizational Image Scale" developed by Gioia ve Thomas (1996) and translated into Turkish by Şahin (2014) to measure organizational image perceptions Descriptive statistics such as arithmetic mean and standard deviation, were used in data analysis along with Mann Whitney U test, Kruskal Wallis H test and Spearman Correlation analysis. According to the results of data analysis, it was found that secondary school teachers agreed to the items in the Organizational Values Scale with a mean of =3,86 and their organizational image perceptions pointed to high level of agreement with a mean of = 3,61. While teachers' perceptions on organizational values, the sub-dimension of values management and total scale were found to differ according to "gender variable", their perceptions on personal values and organizational image did not change according to gender. Teachers' perceptions on school image were found to differ based on "age and subject matter variables" whereas there were no differences in their perceptions in regards to organizational image based on this variable. While a significant difference was identified on teachers' perceptions on Management by Organizational Values Scale and organizational values sub dimension based on "school type" variable, there was no significant difference in the image scale for this variable. The difference found as a result of examining the variance between groups was found to be in the favor of teachers who were employed in public schools. While organizational image perceptions of teachers employed in private schools were found to be higher than those employed in public schools, this difference was not statistically significant between groups. A significant difference was identified on teachers' perceptions on Organizational Values Scale and organizational values sub dimension as well as Organizational Image Scale based on "level of education" variable and this difference was found to be in favor of postgraduate level. The study identified a significant and positive correlation between the organizational values adopted by public and private secondary schools and teachers' perceptions of school image.
