ABSTRACTThe Comparison of Effectiveness and Side Effect of Different Doses of PralidoximeTreatment in Organophosphate PoisoningOrganophosphate is commonly used as insecticides in agriculture in all overthe world. Organophosphate poisoning also occurs in Turkey. Pralidoxime is a kind ofoxime that is used in the treatment of organophosphate poisoning. The aim of this studyis to compare effectiveness of pralidoxime treatment in different doses inorganophosphate poisoning.In this study, 34 patients with organophosphate poisoning were included. Thesepatients equally divided in two groups. In Group I (17 patients) 2 g pralidoxime wasinfused to the patient in twenty minutes. In Group II (17 patient ) 2 g pralidoxime wasinfused in twenty minutes than 6 g pralidoxime was infused in twenty four hours.No significant differences between two groups was found in mechanicalventilation requirements, mechanical ventilation duration, atropinization doses, totalatropine doses, atropine therapy duration, the time of the oral feeding and the durationof hospitalization. There were also no significant differences between two groups indaily serum Buthyrylcholinesterase and Creatine phosphokinase levels. All patientsdischarged with the previous medical situation from the hospital.In conclusion, there was no advantage of higher dose pralidoxime treatment (8g) according to lower dose pralidoxime (2 g) in organophosphate poisoning.Key Words: Organophosphate, PralidoximeVII
