The examination of prophet parable used in formal religious education from the perspective of father-child relationships

In the traditional family structure, although mothers have played an active role in the educational process of their children, it is undeniable that fathers also have a significant impact in this regard. The passages in formal religious education that describe how prophets behaved during the religious education process of their children support this view. Additionally, it is important to utilize these narratives in formal religious education to help children understand the responsibilities of their fathers in the religious education process. Therefore, our study aims to examine the father-child relationship in the prophetic stories used in formal religious education. In our research, the qualitative research method of document analysis has been used. Initially, a literature review was conducted to identify and examine studies on the relationship between religious education and fathers and the use of narratives in religious education. Subsequently, prophetic stories that include the father-child relationship were researched from the Quran and other sources, and necessary readings were carried out. In the next stage, themes were created based on the obtained data, and the typologies of prophets as fathers were analyzed according to their children's attitudes. Furthermore, it was examined how these findings are reflected in the formal religious education textbooks (DKAB and Elective Quranic Studies) for primary education levels (5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades). The data were analyzed using a checklist-based data analysis technique, and the findings were derived from this analysis. According to the results, the most commonly encountered father typology in response to children's behaviors was identified as the "value-giving father" typology. Additionally, it was concluded that the typologies of fathers depicted in the narratives are presented to students either directly or indirectly as learning outcomes in the primary education DKAB and Elective Quranic Studies textbooks.
