The ımpact of social relations in organizational setting over the subdimensions of organizational trust: A study at Baskent University

Organizations are social life areas which include individual interactions andgroup dynamics, and where relations between groups and individuals areexperienced. In these social life areas, common procedures and authorization, bothshape the organizational life and become effective on some unwritten values. Trustconcept is the first of these concepts. Organizational trust concept is formed by thevariety of relations among people, in other words, it is formed by social relations.In this study, Cumming & Bromiley's definition of trust in "OrganizationalTrust Inventory-Long Form (OTI-LF)" has been taken as a basis and hasbeen enhanced and applied, which is "a) an individual's or a group of individuals'effort to act with good will in accordance with the clear or unwritten commitmentsb) whatever happens, being honest in the encounters and pre-determinedcommitments c) the common belief of the group in not taking advantage of the otherparty's condition even under suitable conditions". The purpose of this study is toexplain effects of social relations on sub-dimensions of organizational trust.As a result of the research, it has been concluded that the friendly relationsformed between the Student?s Registrar?s Office and the other units, colleagues'relationships and the rate of familiarity other positively affect the organizationaltrust. The more the intensity of the colleague relations, friendship relations and thelevel of familiarity rises, the more the level of organizational trust increase. One ofthe results that has been obtained, is that the trust relations are mostly affected by thefriendship relations.
