Analysis of Orkhon Inscriptions in terms of values in the social studies curriculum

Abstract (EN)

It is important to use the masterpieces of Turkish culture in value transfer in order to keep Turkish culture and civilization alive and to pass it on to future generations. In this context, Orkhon Inscriptions, which are accepted as the first written source of Turkish culture and civilization and have the power to represent many values belonging to Turkish history and culture, constitute the subject of this research. The purpose of this study is to determine the values in the Social Studies Course Curriculum in Orkhon Inscriptions and to evaluate these values in terms of their importance in Social Studies education. This study was made in accordance with the document review, which is one of the qualitative research methods, and the Inscriptions were resolved through content analysis. In this study, Muharrem Ergin's work named Orhun Abideleri (2019) was taken as basis. 212 sections in which the original text of Orkhon Inscriptions (Kül Tigin, Bilge Kağan, Tonyukuk) are mentioned in the work are scanned and the values in it are determined. The values found were examined and expressions that were directly or implicitly related to the 18 values in the Social Studies Curriculum were determined. The frequency of these expressions in the work is determined and interpreted and given under the related value title. As a result of the research, in the Social Studies Curriculum (MEB, 2018), justice, giving importance to family unity, independence, peace, scientificity, diligence, solidarity, sensitivity, honesty, aesthetics, equality, freedom, respect, love, responsibility, saving, patriotism, benevolence. It has been determined that the 18 values in the Orkhon Inscriptions are located. As a result, it is thought that Orkhon Inscriptions can be used in value transfer activities as a rich resource in Social Studies education.
