Abstract (EN)
Forest crimes are a significant problem that threatens the sustainability of forest resources and the well-being of society. This study aims to examine public perception and knowledge levels regarding forest crimes and their penalties in Çankırı province. The main material of the study consists of face-to-face surveys conducted with 400 participants in the Çankırı city center. Data were analyzed using SPSS 22 software, and the Chi-Square test was employed to examine relationships between specific variables. The survey results indicate that the majority of participants agree on the necessity of forest protection but find government supervision inadequate. Furthermore, there is a widespread perception that forestry-related institutions are failing to adequately inform the public. The level of knowledge regarding forest crimes and penalties is generally low. Education level emerges as a significant factor in being informed about forest crimes and penalties. The study findings suggest that more effective strategies are needed to raise awareness and educate the public about forest crimes and penalties in Çankırı province. Informational efforts targeting citizens with lower education levels and those living in rural areas are particularly important. Additionally, increasing the effectiveness of forest administration's supervision activities and implementing deterrent penalties would be crucial steps in preventing forest crimes.
