Özet (EN)
After disintegration of the Soviet Union, there were some misunderstandings about using of the natural resources among the independent states which was leading to some problems. Distribution and use of trans-boundary rivers have become one of the most sensitive and problematic issues among these states. Two great rivers originate from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, which completely depend on foreign oil and gas supply, provide the water resources of all regions. While downstream countries such as Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, with rich hydrocarbonic sources, use water for irrigation and make great profit for their economy, upstream countries use water as a source of electric power. Regarding the fact that water issue has been already politicized in the region, each state considers it as a treat for their national security. İt is not easy to speak about stability in the region because some of the countries don't follow the rules of the signed agreements and some of them do not participant in international agreements. Moreover, the decisions taken by a government of one country are rigidly criticized by other states. There are different studies on Central Asia's current issues and problems but there are few researches on water security in this region. The present study ended to have comprehensive investigation about water security in Central Asian countries to find out if water issue can give rise to conflict among these countries Keywords: Central Asia, Kyrgyzstan, Aral Sea basin, water issues
