Abstract (EN)
In ancient times leather has been used as one of the primary materials in many cultures. According to ancient culture foundings, Turkish people have used leather in many forms for different purposes, some 2400 years ago. The manufacturing of leather as an important branch of craft showed a great devel opment in Anatolia after moving from central Asia. Turkish Arts should be studied in two distinet parameters. The Pre-Islam period and the period covering the Islam belief as a religion. Social and culturel structure has played a role in design and form of the products. In the pre-Islam, different kinds of belief-systems like Totemism, Shamanism and Budism, had an effective role in the birth of different art styles and forms of different of art products. After the migration from Central Asia the Islam period had a big influ ence upon Turkish Art mostly in Anatolia. Products made out of leather have an important place and role in Turkish people's lives. Though stockbreeding is the means of subsistance, leather has become a popular product. Turks used leather to make and decorate clot has and accessories, saddle and horse trace of harness, weapon accecories, pots and pans for the house hold, tents. Turkish Handcrafts in Central Asia and in Anatolia after the migration showed a link to major development in two different eras; from and decoration of the leather products. With techniques that developed by the time, leathers useabilities and designs have become rich. Leather accessories played a great role as symbols of statues. Today, most of leather the Turks products made by at Central Asia and Ottoman Period one being samed for future at the national and international museums.
