The lecturers? views about home works given in geography lesson at high schools (Sample collected from Yozgat)

This thesis contains a research done for determining the lecturer views about homeworks given in the geography lesson at high schools.The samples in the research were 75 geography lecturers, worked at high school in Yozgat, during the education semesters between 2009 and 2010.Scanning Model was applied in the research. Hereby, a questionnaire about geography lesson homeworks was conducted to lecturers in order to obtain their views. First, the related literature was searched. Then, a questionnaire was approved for determining the lecturers? views about homeworks of geography lesson. The questionnaire was conducted and lecturers? views about the homeworks were obtained. Then, the Statistical Package for Social Sciences, SPSS, program was used for analyzing the statistical data obtained from the questionnaire. The averages and standard means of the scores of lecturers? views about each article were calculated separately. The ?t? test was applied to the views. The Analysis of Variance between Groups, ANOVA, was used to uncover the differences between groups.The lecturers believed in that homeworks encourage the students to researches, give a habit for using the time appropriately, develop responsibility, yield the permanent learning, and stimulate the students? achievements. Also, they believed in that the homeworks bring the students in getting abilities in geography lectures, developing ability in problem solving, and getting an action in group-studies. Finally, the geography lecturers care about creating the awareness about geography and possessions, and against to environmental problems when giving homeworks.The lecturers have some problems stemming from giving homeworks from lesson books, socio-economic situation of the students, the school types they work, methods in related to homeworks and lack of knowledge.Key words: Home works, geography education, lecturer?s view.
