The effect of multimedia tools on students' attitudes toward geography lessons in secondary education and teachers' opinions

This study investigates the impact of multimedia tools on students' attitudes toward geography lessons in secondary education and includes insights from teachers. The research was conducted with 9th-grade students from various public and private high schools located in the city center of Diyarbakır. A quantitative approach was employed, using a pre-test/post-test design to compare an experimental group exposed to multimedia tools with a control group taught using traditional methods. The findings indicate that the use of multimedia tools significantly improves students' attitudes toward geography lessons. The results demonstrate that multimedia tools, particularly in visually intensive subjects like geography, enhance student engagement and contribute to more meaningful and lasting learning experiences. Lessons enriched with visual and auditory materials facilitate access to information, increase classroom interaction, aid in maintaining attention, and support the comprehension of complex concepts. When used appropriately and in balance, multimedia tools improve the quality of the educational process, boost student motivation, and foster positive attitudes toward the subject. Interviews with teachers revealed a strong consensus on the necessity of effectively integrating multimedia tools into education. In conclusion, this study provides concrete evidence of the role of multimedia tools in the digital transformation of education. It emphasizes that their conscious and pedagogically sound integration—especially in disciplines like geography—can enrich the teaching process and positively support both the academic and affective development of students.
