Examination of teachers' organizational cynicism and job satisfaction levels in secondary education institutions

The main aim of this research is to examine the levels of teacher organizational cynicism and job satisfaction and determine the relationship between these variables. This study has been designed using the scanning research model. The study's sample consists of 366 teachers who were employed in secondary education institutions in the city center and districts of Trabzon during the 2021-2022 academic year. The data collection tools used in the research are the Demographic Information Form, Minnesota Job Satisfaction Scale and Organizational Cynicism Scale. Jamovi 2.2.3 software package was used for data analysis. The data obtained from the research were analyzed using independent samples t-test, one-way ANOVA, Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis H test for independent variables, while Spearman's rank correlation coefficient was calculated for correlation analysis. As a result of the analyses conducted, significant differences were determined in job satisfaction in terms of all dimensions by branch, intrinsic satisfaction sub-dimension and overall job satisfaction by age and employment status, intrinsic satisfaction sub-dimension by length of service, external satisfaction sub-dimension and overall job satisfaction by type of schoolwork. In organizational cynicism, significant differences were found in behavioral cynicism sub-dimension by age and length of service, cognitive cynicism sub-dimension and general organizational cynicism dimension by task type and employment status, and cognitive cynicism sub-dimension by type of schoolwork. The research has determined that there is a moderate level and statistically significant negative relationship between teachers' job satisfaction and organizational cynicism levels.
