The relationship between social values and religiosity in secondary school students

Adolescence constitutes one of the critical thresholds in human life. During this period, individuals stepping into youth build their selves with the physical, biological, mental and emotional changes they experience. Social values are defined as the guides that individuals have in the social construction of the self. This study examines the relationship between social values and religiosity in secondary school students aged 14-18 who are living through adolescence. Thus, it is understood that adolescents who experience a critical threshold and undergo changes internalize social values classified as family, traditional, scientific, work-work and religious values. In addition, it is aimed to understand the correlation between their social values and their dimensions of faith, emotion, worship and influence, and their religiosity. Anatolian, Science, Vocational and IHL high school students in Pursaklar district of Ankara were selected as the sample group. The questionnaire form applied to the selected sample group was composed of Bolat's "Multidimensional Social Values Scale" and Gülmez's "Religiousness Scale" questions and demographic variables. The data obtained in the study were analyzed by the SPSS program. According to the results obtained, there is a significant relationship between social values and religiosity in adolescents. In addition, the gender variable in adolescents differs in favor of girls in terms of social value and religiosity. At the same time, the type of school where education is given; significantly differentiating social values and religiosity averages. In this context, it has been determined that the existence of social values is a factor that positively affects religiosity in adolescents.
