Determination of perceptions related to the guidance course and activities of high school students

The aim of this study is to investigate the perceptions of high school students about the guidance course and the activities conducted within the guidance course. The survey was carried out on 2789 students in 11 secondary education institutions determined by stratified sampling method in a province in the Western Black Sea region during 2016-2017 school years. As data collection tool, developed by the researcher, the Guidance Course Perceptions Scale (GCPS) and the Guidance Course Activities Perceptions Scale (GCAPS) were used. In analyzing the data, the values of frequency, percentage, mean value and multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) were utilized. As a result of the research, it is seen that most of the students have positive perceptions of the guidance course and activities regarding to higher education programs and professions. Furthermore, it is also seen that these perceptions have changed according to factors as gender, school type, class level, income level and parent's education level. On the other hand, in our study, it was also pointed out that the necessary corrections and improvements can be made in the guidance course and activities in the future, taking into consideration the issues that students do not have a positive perception.
