The relationship between participation in decision making and organizational socialization among teachers at high school

The aim of this resesarch is to examine the relationship between the teachers' level of participation in decision making about schools and their organizational socialization at high school and whether this level changes any meaningful difference depending on demographic characteristics of teachers. The research was designed with relational screening model. The target population of this research consists of 5573 teachers working in high schools in 2016-2017 academic year in Şanlıurfa city center and district centers. The sample of the research consists of 594 teachers who were selected randomly from the target population with simple cluster sampling method. Data were analyzed by SPSS 21.0 package programme. In the study, "Organizational Socialization Scale developed by Taormina (1994, 2004), adapted by Balcı ve diğerleri (2012) into Turkish was used to measure organizational socialization of teachers and " Decision Participation Scale" developed by Karaca (2001) was used to measure the decision participation situations of them. According to the research findings, levels of organizational socialization of teachers and levels of decision participation of teachers were high. Levels of decision participation teachers who work at high school don't show significant variables according to gender, education status, region, school type, settlement place, managerial experience, branch, length of service to the school, professional seniority, but viii employment type and school graduated, variables show a significant difference. Teachers were mostly participating the topics related to the teaching programs at lower dimensions of levels of participation in decisions and at the very least it was seen that they were participating the issues related to the physical structure/materials and tools. Levels of organization socialization teachers who work at high school don't show significant variables according to school type,branch, settlement place, length of service to the school, employment type but professional seniority, education statusand , managerial experience variables show a significant difference. There was a significant and low relationship between the organizational socialization level and participation of decision situations of high school teachers and decision situation of participation of teachers was the significant predictor of the level of teachers' organizational socialization.
