The effect of teachers' school safety perceptions on organizational confidence and professional commitment in secondary schools

The purpose of this research is to determine the effect of teachers' school safety perceptions on organizational confidence and professional commitment in secondary schools. The research was based on the relational survey model. The population of the study was 3143 teachers who worked 64 high schools located in the central districts of Diyarbakır (Sur, Bağlar, Yenişehir, Kayapınar) provinces during the 2016-2017 academic year. The sample of the study consisted of 1068 teachers selected by simple random sampling method. In this study "School Safety Perception Scale" was used that consisting 6 dimensions of 31 items, was developed by the researcher.The"Organizational Trust Scale", consisting 3 dimensions of 22 items developed by Yılmaz (2006), was used.Developed by Meyer, Allen and Smith (1993) and adapted into Turkish by Tak and Çiftçioğlu.The "Professional Commitment Scale" consisting 3 dimensions of 18 items was used is which developed by Meyer, Allen and Smith (1993) and adapted into Turkish by Tak and Çiftçioğlu. Arithmetic mean, standard deviation, percentage value, t-test, one way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and path analysis methods were used in the analysis of the data using SPSS 23 and AMOS 23 statistical package programs. As a result of the research: Increased school security perception increases organizational trust and decrease in school security perception also leads to a decrease in organizational trust.It was concluded that teachers' school safety levels affect their perception of professional commitment positively and significantly.It has been concluded that the teachers' professional commitment, perceptions have a positive and significant effect on organizational trust perceptions.It shows that school security and professional commitment are important explanatory on organizational trust.Another finding of the this studyis the mediating role of professional commitment in the impact of school security on organizational trust.As a result, it was seen that teachers' organizational trust levels were positively affected by school security and professional commitment perception.Therefore, it can be said that teachers' positive perceptions about school security can have a positive effect on their professional commitment and organizational trust.
