Thesis, 2016 Total Number of Pages : 137 The aim of this study is to determine the students' opinions about the effectiveness of the high school guidance programme, and to identify if the students' opinions vary according to gender, type of school, class level, a mother's level of education, a father's level of education and presence of guidance teacher or not. In this study, causal-comparative research design, one of the descriptive researches, was used. The population of this study was consisted of 9506 students studied in 18 high schools in the central district of Zonguldak city; and the sample consisted of 1301 students chosen from the population of the study. In the study, a scale of school guidance programme evaluation was used. The scale was composed of two forms. The first form included personal information, and the second form included the scale items. The scale had 5 sub-dimensions and 35 items. Frequency, percentage, mean, independent samples t-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used to analyze the data. According to the results of the study, it was found that the students considered the high school guidance programme partially effective. The female students found educational and personal guidance services more effective in comparison with the approach of the male students. The students studied in the Anatolian high schools found the applied guidance programme more beneficial in comparison with the approach of the students studied in other high schools. According to the class level, 9th grade students found the guidance programme effective more than other levels. In addition, the students provided a guidance counselor in their schools expressed more positivite opinions towards guidance programme.
