History of the Republic of Turkey and Kemalism secondary textbooks material usage (1931-2008)

The recent developments in science and technology require education institutions to make innovations about visual technologies. These developments also necessitate modernization of the course books. For that reason, our new history course books are also influenced by these changes. In this study, how materials in History of Turkish Republic and Kemalism course books of Secondary Education that were used between 1931-2008 have been benefited and how these materials have been reflected in these books are to be elaborated. In the first part of this study, aim, importance and situation of the problem have been focused so that the development and use of materials in history teaching are to be explained. Method and model of the research have been given in the second part whereas these course books have been analyzed in terms of the use of material in the third part. As a consequence, it has been found out that there were not so many changes in the use of materials and underpinnings in History of Turkish Republic and Kemalism course books of Secondary Education that were used between 1931-2008. The use of materials and underpinnings in these course books share similarity, as well.Key Words: History Teaching, Course Book, Use of Material, History Education
