Analysis of the values appearing in the texts of the Turkish course boks of 7th and 8th grades

The aim of this research is to define values existing in the Ministry of Education Publishing secondary school Turkish course books of 7th and 8th grade in 2020-2021 school year. In this thesis, as one of the qualitative research methods, document analysis is used. Population of the research consists of Turkish course books taught in the secondary schools affiliated with Ministry of Education in 2020-2021 school year and as for the sample of this study, Ministry of Education publishing Turkish course books taught in the secondary school of 7th and 8th grades affiliated with the Ministry of Education in 2020-2021 school year are handled. To detect the values, Ministry of Education's Values Education Instruction is used as the basis in collecting data. As of the study document, Ministry of Education 7th and 8th grade Turkish course books are chosen; by reading the texts in both 7th and 8th grade books, listening the recordings and watching the videos, each text in the books is examined to find out whether it has a value or what value it contains. Throughout the analysis of the attained input, the texts in the 7th and 8th grade are all read and scanned and the output data is coded. At the end of this process, procured codes are grouped by finding the common traits and they are classified under 27 values that are in the Ministry of Education's Values Education Instructions. According to the results of the study, within the class level there is no systematic and balanced distribution of values among the texts and themes. It is determined that the values are distributed in an imbalanced way, a number of values are out of the frame, some texts has no value and also some values are given more place than the others in the course books which are examined.
