The state of secondary school elt teachers' body language usage in their courses (Kırşehir sample)

The purpose of this study is to define the state of secondary school ELT teachers' body language usage in their courses. The study was carried out through single screening model among screening models. The study group of the research consisted of teachers working and students studying at secondary schools of Ministry of National Education in districts and city center of Kırşehir in 2015- 2016 academic years. The study composed of totally 98 English teachers, randomly selected 34 male and 64 female. Moreover, there were 642 girls and 487 boys, in total 1129 randomly selected students from different grades. In this study aiming to determine state of teachers' body language usage, data was collected through "Body Language Scale" developed by Tok and Temel (2014). Data collection tool consisted of two parts; personal information form and items about body language usage. The questionnaire was used to acquire data from teachers and students. SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) programme has been used to evaluate data and find out values and Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was conducted by using LISREL software. Furthermore, independent samples t test, test of One Way Anova have been used to analyze and interpret the data. At the end of the study, there was not a significant difference between English teachers' body language usage and variables as gender, age and seniority. However, students' perception of body language usage performed by teachers has varied by students' gender and grade. Moreover, teachers evaluated themselves more successful when compared to students' evaluations. In another words, students evaluated their teachers adversely in terms of body language usage.
