Abstract (EN)

With the development and spread of technology, internet addiction and social media addiction have increased, especially among young people. Internet addiction and social media addiction, which cause various consequences that negatively affect the daily lives of individuals, also cause changes in the personality traits of individuals. In this context, one of the frequently observed phenomena especially in primary and secondary school students is intolerance to uncertainty. On the other hand, a decline is observed in the academic achievement of the students, and one of the reasons for this is considered to be academic procrastination. The main purpose of this study is to examine the effects of internet and social media addiction on intolerance of uncertainty and academic procrastination behavior in secondary and high school students. The sample of the study carried out with the relational screening model; It consists of 448 randomly selected students studying at secondary and high school level private education institutions in the provinces of Istanbul, Ankara, Adana, Sivas and Gaziantep. Data; Personal Information Form developed by the researcher, Young Internet Addiction Test Short Form (YİBT-SF), Social Media Addiction Scale for Adolescents (ESMBÖ), Academic Procrastination Scale (AEÖ), Intolerance to Uncertainty Scale (BÖ-12). This research is a quantitative research that examines the effects of internet and social media addiction on intolerance of uncertainty and academic procrastination in secondary and high school students and is in the relational screening model. It was observed that as the age, grade level, duration of internet and social media use and perceived health level of the students increased, the level of academic procrastination, intolerance to uncertainty and internet addiction also increased. High school students' academic procrastination and internet addiction levels are significantly higher than secondary school students' academic procrastination levels. It has been observed that the children of low-income families have a significantly higher mean of both internet addiction and social media addiction than children of middle- and high-income families. It was observed that as the level of academic procrastination increased, the level of internet addiction and social media addiction and intolerance to uncertainty also increased. It was found that as the level of intolerance to uncertainty increased, the level of internet addiction increased, but it did not differ significantly in terms of social media addiction and academic procrastination behavior. It was found that the level of academic procrastination, internet and social media addiction of male students was significantly higher than the level of academic procrastination of female students, and it did not differ significantly in terms of gender and intolerance to uncertainty.
