Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this research is to determine mathematical values and mathematics educational values in the middle school mathematics textbooks and also provide examples about these values. This research is a qualitative research. In order to analyze the mathematical values and mathematics education values in the secondary school mathematics textbooks that were taught in the 2017-2018 academic year, document analysis method was used. Data were analyzed by semantic content analysis. While semantic content analysis is applied, mathematical values and mathematics education values were determined as general categories. All the other values which falls under the general categories are defined as sub categories. The codes of each sub category were determined by searching the literature and making appropriate additions to the content of the research. The research is completed by these codes and its values. Examples are given in the finding sections of this research. It was found that in all of the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade text books , within the mathematical value sub-categories control and openness were emphasized more than progress and mystery values which complement each other respectively. It is observed that from the mathematical values objectism value emphasized more than to the complementary value rationality in 5th grade text books , rationality and objectism values are almost equal; however rationality value mentioned slightly more than the objectism value in 6th grade text books, in 7th and 8th grade books rationality values mentioned more than the objectism values. After analyzing all 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade middle school text books it was found that ,within the mathematics education values formalistic view is more than the activist view, ınstrumental learning is more than the relational learning, theoretical knowledge is more than the relevance, accessibility is more than specialism and evaluating is more than the reasoning. In conclusion, it is expected that presenting the findings obtained in this research with various examples will contribute to the field in terms of mathematical values in mathematics education and the importance of mathematics education values.
