This study aimed to examine the change in the competencies of secondary school mathematics teachers who participated in mathematical modeling training in preparing mathematical modeling activities. The data of the study, which was designed as an action research. The results of the research showed that some of the teachers had insufficient prior knowledge of modeling, when the activities were evaluated within the framework of principles, there were deficiencies in preparing activities that met all criteria, and the learning environment prepared for the development of modeling competencies as well as the theoretical training provided had a positive impact on problem preparation competencies. The results show that in teaching, it is necessary to prepare learning environments for the development of modeling competencies as well as eliminating the theoretical knowledge deficiencies of teachers.
