Investigating motoric performance of secondary school students via dordel koch test and normative data study: A sample of Kütahya

Aim of this study is to investigate motor skill levels of secondary school students according to their age and gender and determining the norm data of children at 11-14 age group. Measurements were taken from 1316 secondary school students studying in Kutahya in the 2014-2015 academic year. Dordel-Koch-Test (DKT) developed by Dordel and Koch is used as a measurement tool for the first time in Turkey. 11-years-old 251 (139 boys, 112 girls) student, 12-years-old 368 (205 boys, 163 girls) student, 13-years-old 322 (187 boys, 135 girls) students and 14-years-old 375 (194 boys, 181 girls) student participated in the study. As a statistical method, two-way analysis of variance at α = 0.05 significance level (Two Way ANOVA) was applied to determine whether any differences between motor skill levels of students according to their age and gender. Tukey's (HSD) as a second level test was applied to determine the differences between age groups and genders. According to the obtained test results (Side-to-Side jump test, Standing long jump test, Sit-up test, Push-up test, 6 Minute run test) showed a significant difference between them p <0.05 according to their age and gender. However, it turned out that there were no significant differences in the Single Leg Balance Test and Flexibility Test. According to the study results, except the balance and flexibilty tests it is shown that there is differences in all tests according to age and gender. As age increases motor skill levels shows increase. If we look at the differences by gender except flexibility in all skills, especially strength, quickness and endurance requiring skills it has seen that boys are better than girls. Only in the side-to-side jump test (foregrounded coordination, quickness and the leg muscle strength continuity) girls reached the better values than boys in 11 and 12 age groups, the reason stems from the earlier maturation of girls.
