Investigation of the relationships between secondary school students' self-regulation skills, motivation and entrepreneurial competencies towards science

Abstract (EN)
This research aims to examine the relationships among secondary school students' self-regulation skills, motivation and entrepreneurship competencies in terms of science. This research in which is used the relational survey model, one of the quantitative research methods, was conducted with 473 secondary school students studying in the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades in Istanbul. The data of the research was assembled online according to the easily accessible sampling method and on a voluntary basis in the 2022-2023 education and academic year. In this research, Personal Information Form, Self-Regulation Scale for Science (SRSS), Motivation Scale for Learning Science (MSLS) and Science, Engineering and Entrepreneurship Skills Evaluation Scale (SEES) were used as data collection tools.When the findings obtained in terms of entrepreneurship are examined, statistically significant differences were found in the variables of secondary school students' like "enjoying science class", "science class success" and "participation in the project";statistically significant differences weren't found in terms of the variables "gender", "grade level", "parents' education level" and "parents' profession".When the results obtained in terms of self-regulation skills are examined, significant differences were found in the variables "gender", "enjoying science class" and "science class success"; significant differences weren't found in terms of the variables "participation in the project", "grade level", "parents' education level" and " parents' profession".In terms of motivation to learn science, significant differences were found in the variables of "enjoying the science class", "science class success" and "grade level".However, in terms of the variables "gender", "participation in the project", "parents' education level" and "parents' profession" statistically significant differences weren't found.When the relationships among secondary school students' entrepreneurial competencies, motivation for learning science, and self-regulation skills are examined,There are statistically significant relationships between all the scales and sub-dimensions used in the research, except for "marketing" and "product completion process in science", which are among the SEES sub-dimensions.Finally, according to the hierarchical regression results, it was found that respectively self-regulation skills, motivation for learning science project participation and gender entrepreneurial skills were mostly predicted (42,8%).However, as a result of the regression analysis conducted to determine which of the sub-dimensions in the self-regulation skills and motivation for science learning scale are effective on these results, it was found that the most learning strategies, critical thinking, intrinsic motivation, project participation and the least gender entrepreneurial skills were predicted. (%45,4).According to these findings, in predicting the entrepreneurial skills of secondary school students, learning strategies and critical thinking which are self-regulation skills; In terms of motivation, intrinsic motivation is seen to be important and it is recommended that activities related to this should be integrated into science lessons.
