The reflection of middle school students' metaphorical perceptions on the concept of patriotia on their artistic creativity

Abstract (EN)

This study aims to examine how secondary school students' metaphors regarding the concept of patriotism are reflected in their artistic works. The research was designed with phenomenology, one of the qualitative research methods. The study group consists of 100 students studying in the Eastern Anatolia Region in the 2024-2025 Academic Year. In the research, easily accessible case sampling, one of the purposeful sampling methods, was used. The data collection tools were the metaphor data collection form used to determine the students' metaphors. The second data of the research consists of the students' artistic works and the stories they wrote for their works. In this way, the second data of the research was reached and the data of the research was analyzed with the content analysis method. According to the results of the research, the students created 16 metaphors belonging to the concept of patriotism, and they expressed this concept with metaphors such as martyr, Atatürk, soldier, love, happiness, the meaning of life, protecting the homeland, sacrifice, success, flag, courage, etc. These concepts were grouped under four categories. When the students' artistic works and metaphors were examined, it was determined that what they wrote and drew overlapped with each other.
