Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to examine secondary school Turkish textbooks in terms of functional grammar. A Turkish textbook randomly selected from each grade level of the secondary school was selected as the study sample via EBA, which is accessible to all primary and secondary school students and teachers. 8 items of functional grammar features were determined by taking the opinions of experts in the field of Turkish on the subject of the study, functional grammar. According to article 8 of functional grammar features, textbooks were examined using the document analysis data collection method around the qualitative research model According to the review, secondary school Turkish textbooks comply most with articles 7 (Students actively participate) and 8 (Students use their mental skills) among the items of functional grammar features, and least comply with article 6 (Cooperative learning activities are included to ensure student motivation) comply. The 7th and 8th articles followed by in order article 3 (It aims to make sense of speaking/writing and to gain the ability to express oneself correctly and effectively), article 2 (Students are taught where, how and when grammar should be used), article 1 (Grammar is handled as a whole with its form, meaning and usage dimensions), article 4 (Grammar is discussed around a text with 4 basic skills) and article 5 (Grammar structures are exemplified in different communication contexts). The examined secondary school Turkish textbooks do not comply sufficiently with items 3, 2, 1, 4, 5 and 6. Accordingly, it has been concluded that secondary school Turkish textbooks are not adequately suitable for functional grammar.
