The role of co-operatives in adoption and extension of agricultural innovations in organisations of animal husbandry in the district of Düziçi of Osmaniye province

This study investigated the role of co-operatives in extension and adoption of agricultural innovations in organisations of animal husbandry in the district of Düziçi, Osmaniye. Local agricultural activities were investigated by collecting data using questionnaires with owners of 116 animal husbandry organisations and managers of 8 regional co-operatives.The results showed that the most significant problems in adopting the agricultural innovations of the organisations were lack of access to relevant knowledge of innovations and financial problems in applying these innovations. It was also found that the farmers preferred veterinarians and other fellow farmers as sources of knowledge, and that the role of the co-operatives as knowledge sources was quite low.Key Words: co-operatives, agricultural innovations, agricultural extension.
