The idea of ​​westernism in the Ottoman State and westernism debates in the press (1908-1918)

During the Tanzimat period, various ideas have emerged for the liberation of the state. Also one of these idea currents is the idea of Westernism. Representatives of this movement of ideas, like other movement of ideas of representatives seeking remedies in order to the reformed of the realm from state have seen the solutions in the West. The idea of Westernism began to take place between the Ottoman intellectuals that gathered around the "Ictihad Journal " during the 1nd Constitutional Era. However, due to the conditions of the period, these intellectuals could not exactly reveal their ideas during the 1nd Constitutional Period. Thus, 2nd The Constitutional Era has given rise to a completely free environment especially in the field of press. Until 2nd Constitutional Era, while it was thought that only the technological activities of the West should be taken as an example, it was adopted by people representing idea of Westernism the idea that West should be taken as an example in all areas in this period. The Ottoman intellectuals always have been disagreement, even if they have the opportunity to gather around the idea of Westernism. The purpose of this thesis is to find out exactly caused of disagreements among intellectuals and what this movement of ideas caused of discuss during 2nd Constitutional Era in which the idea of Westernism began to be discussed most intensively. For this reason, the news in newspapers and journals about the idea of Westernism in Ottoman press in the 2nd Constitutional Era and especially news opposed to idea of Westernism in newspapers and journals published by Islamist intellectuals who have gathered around generally will be formed the main body of this study.
