Abstract (EN)
This thesis deals with the establishment of the Ottoman Red Crescent Society and the social assistance of the Ottoman Red Crescent Society, which continued its activities under the name of Turkish Red Crescent in the Republican period, with an analytical perspective. The Ottoman Red Crescent Society performed an important task in the Tripoli, Balkan and Çanakkale wars, by opening field hospitals behind the front lines for treatment the wounded soldiers. The society, which took the name of Turkish Red Crescent Society after the Republic period continued serving soup kitchens for people effected in famine, epidemics, floods and earthquakes. On the other hand in 1923-1925 Turkish Red Crescent made great effort for Turkish-Greek Populations by ships and ferryboats. Turkish Population who migrated to Türkiye during this exchange were settled in various provinces to Türkiye as farmer. In 1950, the Red Crescent opened a hospital for migrants in Çorlu for the Turks who were subjected to forced migration in Bulgaria and undertook their treatment and carried out activities fort he resettlement of immigrants with the assistance of the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye and the President. They were then inhabited in the immigrant homes that built for them by state and The Red Crescent Since Bulgarian immigrants had various professions, they played an important role in the development of the country. During Cyprus Republic period, The Red Crescent provided various aids to the island, regardless of religion, language or race, in order to bring peace and tranquility to the island. Cyprus Red Crescent Hospital which was established in 1963-65 had given health service on the island for years. During Cyprus Peace Operation, The Red Crescent provided medical support for people on island. In the 1980s an 1990s, the Red Crescent started to be a symbol which is known for health services and social aids all over the world. Especially social aids sent through poor countries were increased rapidly by Turkish Red Crescent. On the other hand, a significant amount of social aids was sent to Bosnia Herzegovina during the war. In 1999s The Red Crescent played an important role to establish tent cities after Marmara and Düzce Earthquakes.
