Abstract (EN)
Caravanserais and inns were buildings that provided accommodation services in the Ottoman Empire until the end of the nineteenth century. These structures, which are spaped around the ranges and the complexes, are the foundation structures established by the Sultans and the leading statesmen for charity purposes. As a result of the internal and external developments experienced in the military field in the eighteenth century, the modernization process in the Ottoman Empire became a radical political, administrative, economic, cultural and social transformation as of the 19th century. After the second half of the eighteenth century, European city life enters hotels in the context of accomodation as one of the result of rapid industrialization. In the urban life of the Ottoman Empire, hotels took their place in the cities as of the first half of the nineteenth century. After the announcements of the Tanzimat and Islahat Fermans, rapidly developing hotel activities reached the level of hotels in Europe in the 1890s. The Empire resorted to a number of measures to ensure that this new practice, which took its place in the cities during its turbulent period, would proceed under its control.
