Effects to medication compliance and life quality of patients with osteoporosis of osteoporosis patient follow-up system

Osteoporosis is chronic disease characterized by decreased bone mass and deterioration of bone quality. Medication compliance and life quality of the patients are low due to requirement of long term treatment. In this research we aimed to demonstrate the effects of Fizakademi Osteoporosis Patient Follow-up System on medication compliance and life quality of patients. In this research, patient with low medication compliance treated in daily, weekly and monthly mediaction groups. Fizakademi Osteoporosis Patient Follow-up System was used to follow patients. Patients were called for reminding to take their medicine on time.233 osteoporosis patients were choosen for this research and total number of 200 patients (173 women, 27 men) were included according to exclusion criteria. The patients were divided into 3 equal groups; daily, weekly and monthly. Each patient filled out osteoporosis questionnaire and patients were reminded to take their medicine by phone using Fizakademi Patient Follow-up System. In addition montly MPR levels were measured. The life quality of patients were quantified at initiation, 3. month and 6. month by using Qualeffo -41.Significant increase were demontraded in MPR value (p<0,05) in this six month survey. Also significant inverse correlation were found between life quality and MPR value (r= -0.246 (p<0.001)).As a result, osteoporosis is a chronic disease that requires long term treatment and a public health problem because it increases risk of bone fracture and affects patient?s life quality adversely in social, psychological,economic and physical term. Compliance with medication is great importance due to these reasons. Patient?s age, education level, frequency of doses, especially long term dosage regimen and the patient follow-up system are effective on compliance with medication and increase of the compliance provides a parallel increase in life qualty of the patient. If there is a noncompliance with medication, reason should be researched, solution should be produced and the patient sould be registered to the Patient Follow-up System. Otherwise, if medication doesn?t benefit patient during treatment it can cause medical, social and economiclosses.
