Özet (EN)
Osteoporosis is a systemic and metabolic bone disease characterized by low bone mass and micro architectural deterioration of bone tissue, leading to enhanced bone fragility and a consequent increase in fracture risk.It is said that there was some effects of ghrelin and obestatin on the bone metabolism. In this study, ghrelin and obestatin hormones levels are observed at the patients who diagnosed as postmenaposual osteoporosis and the effect of the treatment on these hormones.36 patients who had never taken medical OP treatment and who were diagnosed as postmenapousal OP initialy and 21 control patients who were similar according to age and sex were included to the study. At first the physical examination and rutin biochemical analysis of the patient who were included to the study were made. The patients? blood and saliva specimens were taken for assessing the ghrelin and obestatin hormones. Bone dansitometry measurements were made. The osteoporosis group were treated with strontium ranelate (2 g/day) and calcium(1200 mg/day) + vitamin D (800 IU/day).The patients? Quality of Life Questionnaire of The European Foundation for Osteoporosis (QUALEFFO), Short Form 36 (SF?36) and Nottingham Health Profile (NHP) were performed. After six months all of these parameters were repeated in OP group.According to results, significant differences have been observed in obestatin serum açil ghrelin saliva ,desacil ghrelin saliva and obestatin saliva when osteoporosis ptient group has been compared with control group after and before the treatment. When QUALEFFO, SF-36 and NHP were assesed in OP group, significantimprovement has been observed in QUALEFFO pain, SF-36 physical function, NHP pain and physical activity before and after the treatment.Positive effect on bone mineral density has been seen after 6 months. Finally, there was no difference in the ghrelin and obestatin serum and saliva specimens after and before the treatment, when compared with control group the increase of differences in ghrelin and obestatin between the control and after treatment group is a result of positive effect of treatment in bone turnover. This can be a proof that these two hormones are effective in poliferation and differentiation in osteoblastic cells. More investigation is needed.Key words: Postmenopausal osteoporosis, ghrelin, obestatin, quality of life.
