Abstract (EN)

Workplace violence is one of the crucial issues that employees experience and are affected in various ways in the hotels. However, studies relating to this issue only emphasizes one dimension of workplace violence or purely workplace violence against women. Moreover, workplace violence has not been evaluated in an integrated approach and in details. This study aims at determining workplace violence in hotels including physical, psychological (mobbing), verbal and sexual violence. In addition, the study aims to determine the effect of workplace violence in terms of depression, anxiety and stress conditions of employees. The study takes a significant place in terms of minimizing this issue for both academia and industry executives. Quantitative research approach was adopted in this study conducted with 292 employees in Eskişehir and 176 employees in Antalya. Questionnaire was used as a data collecting instrument and for the analysis, descriptive statistics, independent sample T test, Kruskal Wallis and Mann Whitney U tests were performed. Research was completed between December 20, 2016- January 25, 2016 in 35 days. As a result, the study revealed the following findings; there are significant differences among gender, work status, age, education, hotel type, department, work duration in the hotel and being exposed to violence. Moreover, being exposed to violence constitutes significance differences among employees' depression and anxiety conditions. Besides, the degree of worry of the employees about being exposed to violence has been found out to be higher than those who are not exposed to violence Keywords: workplace violence, hotel, employees, Eskişehir, Antalya.
