The problems faced by autistic children in the use of clothing

This study aims to find the problems of the autistic children?s dressing issues. The model of the research includes the related sources and the data that obtained from the survey, which was done with the help of the parents of the autistic children whostudy at OÇEM, Private Education and Rehabilitation Centers which reside in İstanbul, Ankara and İzmir. The research is a study that has the characteristics of screening model. The research was made on the parents who take responsibility of the autistic children whose ages are ranging between 6-12 years old who study at OÇEM and Private Education and Rehabilitation Centers. Square root compromise allocation was used to determine the sample. Scale validity of 101 different variables measured by 3 point Likert-scale (? = 0944) was proved. The number and percentage values of the data by applying the ? ² test are given with cross tabs according to the public and private school variable. Following the research, it is determined that the autistic children have problems with especially wearing the clothes with buckles and achieving the prerequisite skillsrequired to use clothes which are holding an object with the thumb and the forefinger and standing on one foot. Since working on clothes which aims easier usage of the clothes of the autistic children leads to solve the problems of the child about dressing, it?s recommended that velcro and large zipper pullers should be used for closing the clothes and elastic waistpants should be designed to reduce or remove the problems.Key Words: autisim, clothes, the problems faced by autistic children in the use of clothing.
