Effectiveness of video modeling in reducing problem behaviors in the transitions between environments in preschool children with autism spectrum disorder

The purpose of the study was to investigate the effectiveness, maintenance and generalization of implementation of video modeling in reducing problem behaviors and to provide transitions harmoniously. In addition, social validity of the study was determined by receiving opinions of mothers of participants related to results of the study and function of the skills chosen. In accordance with this purpose, problem behaviors that occurred during transition from special education to sports class, from special education class to the next special education class and from special education to group class skills were reduced with video modeling to three male children with autism spectrum disorder whose age range is 3-6. Multiple probe design with probe trials across participants was used in the study. The findings of the study show that the problem behaviors that occurred during transition between environments were reduced for all of the participants and they have maintained their performance one, three and five weeks after instruction and generalized with different people. Social validity findings of the study show that mother of participants was pleased with the results of the study.
